(Wake Forest) absolutely shaped me as a writer. When I graduated from high school, I wanted just to go to New York City and write. And then Tom Phillips … offered me a situation at Wake where I could do open curriculum, which basically meant I didn’t have to do chemistry. I found it a really liberating place.
